ULYSSES BEGAN HIS ODDYSEY
In the Homeric poems, Ithaca is the home of Ulysses, whose homecoming is the central theme of the Odyssey. From a general point of view, the project proposes a romantic drift that seeks to restore the vitality of yesteryear to the Txonta neighborhood, breathing new life into the abandoned industrial area through residential development and the reorganization of the hill under the highway.
The existing building is an industrial building, the former headquarters of the company “AIBE”. We propose a complete renovation of the building while respecting and preserving its character. The proposal seeks to provide functional value through the introduction of small dwellings that will regenerate the life of the neighborhood, give a new “plaza” to the site and recover the landscape environment.
The project presented is based on the following objectives:
– The Hill, the Architecture and the Plaza: Rehabilitation of the “AIBE” heritage building with minimum criteria, both at the level of endowment housing and the regeneration of a space for public use at its ground floor and circulations.
– Accessibility and environment: Generate a system of connections that is not only useful for new housing, but also allows and resolves the different levels with fluid access from the lower area of Paseo Galicia to the industrial viewpoint of Éibar. From the street to the square, from the square to the terrace and from there to nature.
– Mixed urban surgery: The “AIBE” building is not exclusively reserved for private use, but the public spills through its structure thanks to the spaces for the community and the specific equipment. Every citizen can enjoy the entire performance environment.
– High quality housing: The living spaces are located in all the existing areas that allow the solution of double lighting/cross ventilation fronts. What is not filled in the “AIBE” building will be redistributed according to programmatic criteria in a new volume, thus urbanizing the adjacent plot.
– Living Cities 2: Generate confidence that architecture still has that transforming power, where the old is still old, but through a technical and creative perspective can transform an old industrial village into new “Ithacas” from the Odyssey; where life, culture and nature go hand in hand for the sake of progress.
ULISES COMENZÓ SU ODISEA
En los poemas homéricos, Ítaca es el hogar de Ulises, cuyo regreso a casa es el tema central de la Odisea. Desde un punto de vista general, el proyecto propone una deriva romántica que busca devolver la vitalidad de antaño al barrio de la Txonta, dando nueva vida a la zona industrial abandonada a través del desarrollo residencial y la reordenación de la colina bajo la autovía.
El edificio existente es un edificio industrial, antigua sede de la empresa “AIBE”. Proponemos una renovación completa del edificio respetando y preservando su carácter. La propuesta busca dotar de valor funcional a través de la introducción de pequeñas viviendas que regeneren la vida del barrio, den una nueva “plaza” al solar y recuperen el entorno paisajístico.
El proyecto presentado se basa en los siguientes objetivos:
– La Colina, la Arquitectura y la Plaza: Rehabilitación del edificio patrimonial “AIBE” con criterios mínimos, tanto a nivel de vivienda dotacional como de regeneración de un espacio de uso público en su planta baja y circulaciones.
– Accesibilidad y entorno: Generar un sistema de conexiones que no solo sea útil para nuevas viviendas, sino que también permita y resuelva los diferentes niveles con acceso fluido desde la zona baja del Paseo Galicia hasta el mirador industrial de Éibar. De la calle a la plaza, de la plaza a la terraza y de ahí a la naturaleza.
– Cirugía urbana mixta: El edificio “AIBE” no está reservado exclusivamente para uso privado, sino que el público se desborda a través de su estructura gracias a los espacios para la comunidad y al equipamiento específico. Cada ciudadano puede disfrutar de todo el entorno de actuación.
– Vivienda de alta calidad: Los espacios habitables se ubican en todas las áreas existentes que permiten la solución de frentes de doble iluminación/ventilación cruzada. Lo que no se rellene en el edificio “AIBE” se redistribuirá según criterios programáticos en un nuevo volumen, urbanizando así la parcela colindante.
– Living Cities 2: Generar confianza en que la arquitectura sigue teniendo ese poder transformador, donde lo viejo sigue siendo viejo, pero que a través de una perspectiva técnica y creativa puede transformar una antigua aldea industrial en nuevas “Ítacas” de la Odisea; donde la vida, la cultura y la naturaleza van de la mano en aras del progreso.
